His Excellency Alfonso A. Ver, the Philippine Ambassador, led the giving of the certificates of recognition to the administrative heads, selected faculty , staff, students, alumni, employers, and members of the Programme Advisory Panel who contributed to the realization of the much coveted ABET accreditation.
AMA International University-Bahrain (AMAIUB) shares the honor and pride to all the Filipinos as it attains an exemplary milestone of being the first and only ABET accredited private university in the Kingdom of Bahrain. AMAIUB was founded in 2002 by the Philippine’s father of Computer Education, Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz V. The university is a member of AMA Education System which is the largest educational network in Asia.
AMAIUB’s ABET – accredited degree programmes include the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering (BSIE), and Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering(BSME).
Specifically, the BSCS programme was granted re-accreditation by Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET for four years (2015-2019).
On the other hand, the BSIE and BSME programmes were accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET for six years (2015-2021), plus two years retroactive from 2013. All in all, both the engineering programmes were given eight years accreditation which is the maximum duration that a programme could get. The EAC was impressed on the quality and level of engineering graduation projects which deal with real-life and industry-based problems.
ABET is the highest accrediting body in applied sciences, engineering, computing, and technology. Its accreditors are composed of professors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Princeton University, Cornell University and Ohio University, among others.
The ABET accreditation is significant for AMAIUB for a number of reasons. First, it gives an assurance to the academic community that the university’s programmes meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields that are leading the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public. Moreover, it also positions AMAIUB as one of the internationally recognized universities which foster the “best practices” in education and underscores “learning outcomes” instead of “teaching inputs”.
As for the students, the ABET accredited programmes verify that their educational experiences meet the global standard for technical education in their computing and engineering professions. Hence, it builds up their employment opportunities and paves the way for them to work globally because ABET accreditation is recognized worldwide through international agreements, and many other countries’ national accrediting systems are based on the ABET model.
With the university’s ABET Accreditation for its computing and engineering programmes, it has to be underscored that all the degree programmes offered at AMAIUB are internationally-accredited.
To note, the university’s business programmes, the Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics and Bachelor of Science in International Studies, are accredited by European Council for Business Education (ECBE). ECBE is an international organization which ensures that its accredited members satisfy the requirements of the European Higher Education set out in the Bologna Process and other European standards.
These accreditations are proofs that the university continuously uplifts its culture of academic excellence by delivering quality higher education to the youth who are the ‘think thanks’ of tomorrow.
With the indefatigable leadership of Chairman Ambassador Amable R. Aguiluz V, AMAIUB will not falter in providing access to quality education through its commitment to outcome-based instruction, research and community engagement to produce highly-skilled and competent graduates dedicated to life-long learning and responsive to the growing socio-economic needs of Bahrain, the region, and the world.
