Students of AMA Basic Education – Davao Campus (AMABE - Davao), namely, Paolo Dimalanta, Yomichirei Arieta and Jamaica Jasmine Paula Dela Cruz, with their coaches Nelson V. Baldeviso and Charles Dwayne C. Tumalip won in the Inter-High School Robowars hosted by the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) of the Ateneo de Davao University held at Abreeza – Ayala Mall last March 12, 2016.

Other participating schools were Ateneo de Davao High School, Sta. Ana National High School, Davao City National High School, Davao Precious International School.

The Inter-high School Robowars is now in its sixth year, and the concept for this year’s event was Sumo Wrestling; hence, the objective of each participant’s robot is to push the opponent outside of the ring without going over the edge itself. After an exciting and tension-filled round robin and semi-finals, the students of AMABE – Davao faced their final opponent from the Davao City National High School. With superb programming knowledge, AMABE defeated the opponent and became the CHAMPION for the Inter-High School Robowars.

AMABE also participated in the college level competition, where they went up against the students from the School of Engineering and Architecture and Computer Science Department of Ateneo de Davao University. AMABE was enjoying a series of wins until they got to the final match, wherein their opponent asked for a leeway to remodel their robots. With good spirits and sportsmanship, the final match was played out and the robot of the Computer Science students of Ateneo de Davao, which became faster and the sensors reconfigured, finally pushed AMABE’s robot out of the ring, earning them the championship for the college level competition and AMA Basic Education as first runner-up.
